Michael Janssen is a Berlin based gallery for contemporary art featuring painting, sculpture, photography and installation from both established as well as up-and-coming artists.
Spanning a period of twelve years, the gallery hosted over eighty exhibitions in Cologne at its first location since 1995. Among them were solo exhibition projects with acclaimed artists such as Lynda Benglis, Pino Pascali, Braco Dimitrijevic, and promising talents such as Peter Zimmermann, Yoshitaka Amano, Gert and Uwe Tobias and Thomas Grünfeld.
In 2008, all activities were moved to Berlin with current location in the vibrant area of Tiergarten where internationally operating galleries gather. The gallery continues to introduce emerging artists such as Aiko Tezuka, Stijn Ank and Shaan Syed amongst others. Aiming to also reintroduce the work of older artists, the gallery has showcased works by Gianfranco Baruchello, Rose Wylie, and Lili Dujourie.
Through temporarily running a second space in Singapore (between 2012 and 2015) and participating in many activities such as art fairs and exhibition projects in Asia, the gallery built and is extending his expertise on the contemporary South East Asian art market.
That includes featured artists such as Ai Weiwei, Simryn Gill, Aiko Tezuka and Yukinori Yanagi, Jaime Roque, Titarubi, Jeremy Sharma and Ho Tzu Nyen, the latter is Grand prize winner of the 2015 triennial Asia Pacific Breweries Foundation Signature Art Prize.
