VivoCity is designed by internationally acclaimed Japanese architect Toyo Ito, the man behind the renowned Sendai Mediatheque in Japan, known for his signature-style, which focuses on the utilisation of nature, climate and open spaces. It is his first major project in Asia outside of Japan, and is set apart from the traditional box format retail developments in the region.

Spanning 1,500,000 square feet (140,000 m²) of gross floor area, 5 levels, and 1,077,000 square feet (100,100 m²) of retail space, it has a total of 340 stores.
